Our Goal Our goal is to ensure that the parishes in Auburn have the vision, leadership, and resources necessary to fulfill the Church’s mission of making disciples. We recognize that the circumstances facing our parishes are changing. We also recognize that any discussion about the future of our parishes can bring both hope and uncertainty. For this reason, we want this process to be rooted in prayer, openness, honesty, and trust in the Lord’s guidance.
The Reality We Face It is anticipated that, in the future, only one priest will be available to serve the parishes in Auburn. This reality invites us to consider how we can best organize parish life so that our communities remain vibrant, sustainable, and focused on the mission entrusted to us by Christ.
Parish Representatives A committee of parish representatives will be formed with representatives from both parishes. Father Fraini will select the representatives based upon their experience, their ability to approach the process with openness and objectivity, and their willingness and capacity to participate fully in a process that will unfold over several months. The representatives will meet regularly with Father Fraini to pray, discern, and discuss the strengths and challenges of each parish community. At the conclusion of the process, the representatives will offer their recommendations to the bishop as to the best path forward for the parishes in Auburn.
Considering Possible Paths Forward As we discern the future, the representatives will consider several possible ways in which the parishes might be reorganized. These scenarios are not predetermined decisions, rather they are possibilities intended to help us have honest and constructive conversations about how best to serve the people of God in Auburn. In considering these possibilities, we will look carefully at such things as:The availability of priests and the lay leadership and staffing needed to support the mission of the Church;
Our parish facilities and their ability to provide safe, welcoming, accessible, and affordable places for worship and ministry;
The financial health and long-term sustainability of our parish communities; and
Opportunities for growth in evangelization, discipleship, and participation in parish life.
Listening to Each Parish Community Each parish will have the opportunity to share its own perspective with the bishop. Each will prepare a separate rationale expressing its hopes, concerns, needs, and recommendations for the future. These reflections play an important part in the discernment process and will assist the bishop as he considers the future of the parishes in Auburn.
